Michigan dominates home invite
Wolverines knock off Concordia (Calif.), Mercyhurst
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- No. 13 Michigan dominated the field at the 2012 Wolverine Invitational, winning all six matches by a combined 81-20 margin during two days of competition. The Wolverines (15-9) finished the weekend with a 14-9 victory against Concordia (Calif.) and a 14-2 win against Mercyhurst.
Against Mercyhurst, U-M started strong, taking a 4-1 lead after the first period and increasing the margin to 8-1 going into halftime. The Wolverines out-scored the Lakers, 6-1 in the second half. Lauren Colton, Claire Ivry and Laura Milstead tallied two goals, with Colton scoring in the first period, Ivry in the second and Milstead in the fourth. Eight other players registered goals. Tara Brigham made eight saves on 10 shots.
In the morning match-up with Concordia, Michigan used a balance scoring effort to post. The Wolverines jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first period and doubled up Concordia by gaining an 8-4 halftime advantage.
U-M netted three goals in the final two periods to finish the 14-9 win. Meagan Cobb and Lauren Colton posted hat tricks for the Wolverines and Kiki Golden added two goals. Alex Adamson made nine saves in the contest.
