Tusculum defeats Carson-Newman for 12th consecutive win
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Tusculum made it 12 wins in a row with a 6-3 victory at Carson-Newman in a South Atlantic Conference match Tuesday afternoon.
The Pioneers (15-1, 6-0 SAC) never trailed against the Eagles (9-8, 3-3 SAC) on their way to extending their streak of consecutive victories to a dozen. Tusculum led 2-1 after doubles and 4-2 after the first round of singles before clinching the win with a victory from Kealee Heffner at flight four.
Tusculum claimed two of the three doubles points as Heffner teamed with Kate Hutchinson for an 8-5 win against Stefy Stand and Breanne Tremblay at flight one. At flight two, the team of Erin Mills and Adrienne Kaye pushed their record to 13-0 with an 8-2 victory against Patricia Guerreiro and Jennifer Ott. The Eagles picked up a point behind an 8-5 win from Brooke Sanderson and Katie Brown at flight three.
In singles, Mills took the victory at flight one when Guerreiro retired early in the second set, and Hutchinson beat Tremblay 6-4, 6-2 at flight three. Heffner's 6-2, 6-3 win against Sanderson at flight four was the clinching point, and Kaye added an insurance point with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Haleigh Chastain to boost her season record to 16-0. The Eagles earned wins from Stand at flight two and Ott at flight six.
