No. 7 Gettysburg defeats No. 6 Franklin & Marshall in conference play
GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Seventh-ranked Gettysburg defeated No. 6 Franklin & Marshall 8-6 in Centennial Conference (CC) action Wednesday evening. The Bullets improved to 13-2, 7-1 CC and locked up home field advantage for the playoffs while the Diplomats dropped to 13-4, 7-1 CC.
Emily Everdell put the Diplomats up early in the first with a goal off a free position at 20:47 and Emily Tropsa answered for the Bullets a minute later to tie the game at 1-1.
Caroline Krohn made it 2-1 before Bullets answered with a goal from Loren Pruitt. Mary Mitchell put F&M up 3-2 with just 3:32 left in the half, but the Bullets managed a goal with just four ticks on the clock to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the break.
Krohn put the Diplomats back on top with a score early in the second half before the Bullets answered with two consecutive to go up 5-4. Brittney Jorgenson tallied an unassisted goal at 20:28 to make it 5-5, but the Bullets pulled away with a 3-0 run and took an 8-5 advantage with a little under 16 minutes left in the game. Krohn picked up her third score with a minute remaining, but the Bullets were able to run out the clock and secure the win.
Christie Bonfiglio caused two turnovers to pace the defense and Anastasia Mergner also caused two turnovers and finished with three draws.
F&M outshot Gettysburg 35-19, forced 17 turnovers and went 12-for-13 on clears while holding the Bullets to 11-for-22.
