No. 2 Salisbury crushes Hood
Sea Gulls extend their conference winning streak to 79 games
SALISBURY, Md. -- No. 2 Salisbury extended its Capital Athletic conference winning streak to 79 games with a 20-0 victory against Hood, Tuesday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium. It was the second shutout posted by the Sea Gulls this season and the 20 goals scored sets a new season high for the team.
The scoring was spread around for Salisbury (9-0, 2-0 CAC), as 17 different players posted a point in the contest. Freshman midfielder Kate Haker tallied a career-high six points -- all on assists, to lead the scoring effort for Salisbury. Junior Lauren Feusahrens led the Sea Gulls with a game-high three goals.
The Sea Gulls came out strong against Hood (2-9, 0-3 CAC) and the Blazers were never able to turn back the Salisbury attack. The maroon and gold controlled the ball much of the game and held a considerable statistical advantage throughout the contest as well. For the contest, the Sea Gulls outshot the Blazers 32-4, collected 10 more ground balls and committed 10 less turnovers. Salisbury was able to keep the ball in their offensive third for much of the contest, as Hood was 3-of-15 on clearing attempts.
Senior Mackenzie White netted her first goal of the year for the Sea Gulls; freshman Dominique Dipino, junior Alyssa Hardesty and sophomore Meghan Toomey -- the three starting Salisbury defenders, each scored their first collegiate goals in the contest. Freshman Kara O'Rourke, with a pair of goals, and sophomore Anna Sparr each netted the first goals of their career as well for Salisbury.
Sophomore goalie Ashton Wheatley made the only Salisbury save in the game and combined with classmate Hannah Whiteley and freshman Alyssa Harmke for the shutout.
