Mercyhurst downs St. Cloud State, 8-1

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Jesse Scanzano posted a hat-trick to lead five different Lakers in scoring as the fourth-ranked Mercyhurst College women's hockey team posted an 8-1 win over host St. Cloud State at the Easton Holiday Showcase.
Playing in their first contest since Dec. 11, the Lakers continue their winning ways and move to 14-3 on the year while St. Cloud State falls to 0-17-1.
The Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period before St. Cloud State registered its only goal in the second. In the third, it was all Mercyhurst as the Lakers racked up five goals on a 21-10 shot advantage. For the game, the Lakers held a 50-21 lead in shots and converted on 4-of-8 power plays.
Scanzano opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 7-minute mark then extended the Lakers lead to 2-0 at 16:57 on an even-strength after it hit the pipe from Kelley Steadman's shot. Samantha Watt then tallied her first goal of the season at 18:45 to push the advantage to 3-0 entering the second stanza.
St. Cloud State registered its only goal of the game in the second when Brittany Toor connected at 8:40 to cut the Lakers' lead to 3-1. Neither team would score in the second period after that.
In the third, the Lakers restored the three-goal advantage quickly when Christine Bestland buried a shot at 4:29. She then registered her second goal of the game at 9:45 as SCSU had a man in the penalty box. The Lakers next two goals came on the power play, with Jess Jones tallying a score at 13:26 and Scanzano finding the back of the net for the third time shortly thereafter at 14:39. Cassea Schols posted the game's final score at 18:41.
