The NFL Draft's 83rd edition kicks off Thursday night, and with it will come the 83rd No. 1 overall pick. Last year, that pick was defensive end Myles Garrett, drafted first by the Cleveland Browns.

Whoever's name is called first this year will join some impressive company.

There was the first ever pick in the NFL — Jay Berwanger, winner of the first Heisman trophy, and picked by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1936 (though he would never play in the NFL). There was O.J. Simpson and Terry Bradshaw, Earl Campbell and John Elway, Bo Jackson and Troy Aikman.

Most of them made history in the NFL, but they made their names in college. Simpson at USC, Elway at Stanford, Jackson at Auburn.
