IRVING, Texas – UAB senior QB Joe Webb has been named Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for a career-high 378 yards and three TDs in the Blazers win at Memphis. East Carolina sophomore CB Emanuel Davis earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Pirates stay in first place in the East Division with a win at Tulsa. Special Teams recognition went to Southern Miss freshman KR Tracy Lampley, who had a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in a win at Marshall.
Webb threw for a career-high 378 yards and three touchdown passes to lead UAB to a 31-21 win at Memphis and the Blazers’ third consecutive victory. Webb, the nation’s 12th-leading rusher, added 52 rushing yards to break UAB’s all-time single-season rushing mark with 1,158 yards on the season. He also extended to 95 the number of passes he’s thrown without an interception. Including Saturday’s game, Webb now has three of the nation’s top 17 highest single-game pass efficiency ratings this season. This is Webb’s second Offensive Player of the Week honor this season.
Davis tallied a Pirate secondary-high six (five solo) tackles and contributed a pivotal 42-yard interception return for a touchdown during East Carolina’s 44-17 Conference USA win at Tulsa. He was also was credited with a team-best three pass breakups. Davis’ interception return broke open a 23-17 lead early in the fourth quarter and also sparked a run of 21 defensive points to close the game. The INT was the sixth of his career and second returned for a score (other was vs. Houston in 2008). Davis helped a ECU defensive effort that forced four turnovers and limited the Golden Hurricane to just 30 rush yards (0 in first half) and 266 total yards.
Lampley established a school record for kickoff return yards in a game with 211 in the Golden Eagles win at Marshall. He registered his first career kickoff return for a 93-yard touchdown and ended the game with 225 all-purpose yards. Lampley is one of just three FBS players to return a kickoff and punt for a touchdown in 2009 and the only true freshman that has done that this season.
