DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference and Commissioner Karl Benson today announced a 10-game ESPN and ESPN2 football schedule for the 2010 season highlighted by a season-opening Thursday night contest on Sept. 2 featuring USC at Hawaii that will be shown on ESPN.
Fresno State makes an appearance two days later when the Bulldogs host Cincinnati on ESPN2. On Friday, Sept. 17, Nevada hosts California. Boise State makes its first home appearance on one of the networks to be announced later when it welcomes Oregon State on Saturday, Sept. 25. The Broncos enter next season with a 14-game winning streak and have won 26 home games in a row, the second longest active streak in the nation.
The month of October opens up with Brigham Young at Utah State for a Friday night contest. Boise State is again featured at home on ESPN2 when Louisiana Tech travels to Boise for a Tuesday night game on Oct. 26.
In November, Idaho hosts Boise State on Friday, Nov. 12 and a week later, Fresno State travels to Boise State with both games on ESPN2. In a rematch of the game that decided last year’s WAC champion, Nevada hosts Boise State on Friday, Nov. 26, also on ESPN2. The schedule will also include another game to be determined at a later date.
"With three BCS Bowl appearances and two wins over the last four seasons, WAC football has established itself as one of the top brands in the country," said Benson. "Our relationship with ESPN allows us to put together a television schedule for next season that will provide plenty of exciting and big games to showcase our teams throughout the nation."
Seven of the WAC’s nine teams will make at least one appearance in 2010. Additional television games are expected to be added to all of the ESPN networks in the upcoming months.
