RENO, Nev. â€“ With three new members of its coaching staff and 16 returning starters, the Nevada football team will open spring drills on Friday at Wolf Pack Park.
Friday will be the first of the 15-practce spring session, which will culminate in an exciting and revamped Silver and Blue Game at Mackay Stadium on April 3.
The Wolf Pack is coming off an 8-5 season in which Nevada went to a bowl game for the fifth consecutive season. Among the top returning players are WAC Defensive Player of the Year Dontay Moch, WAC Freshman of the Year Brandon Wimberly, and All-WAC players Colin Kaepernick, Vai Taua, James-Michael Johnson and Virgil Green.
The Wolf Pack will practice today, Saturday and Sunday at Wolf Pack Park and will continue Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday next week before taking a week off for Spring Break. The remaining practices will be on March 23-24-26-27-30-31 and April 2. All practices are open to media and scrimmages (March 13 and 27) are scheduled scrimmages at Mackay Stadium and they are open to the public.
The Silver and Blue Game is scheduled for April 3 and will feature a game-type atmosphere. The team will be split into two squads and the game will be played complete with public address announcers, music, concessions, cheerleaders, dance team and the band. The Fremont Cannon will be on display and the schoolâ€™s ROTC will fire itâ€™s cannon after every score.
The day will be full of â€œfan-festâ€ activities including: games for children and bounce houses; an Easter Egg Hunt; post-game rib-eating contest for the team; pre-game tailgating in the north parking lot, autograph signing by players and coaches and other giveaways.
