SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football coach Marty Fine is pleased to announce the signing of 25 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to enroll and participate in intercollegiate football at the school this fall. The Class of 2014 includes student-athletes from nine different states and features a balance of 11 offensive and 14 defensive players, nine of whom are defensive linemen or linebackers.
“We are very pleased to welcome these 25 young men to Bryant University and the Bulldog football program,†said Fine. “They are all exceptional student-athletes who will be outstanding ambassadors of our program in the classroom, the community and on the football field as we look to continue to compete against the very best of Division I.â€
Fine, now in his seventh season at Bryant, returns 12 starters from last year’s squad but the Bulldogs will need to replace six starters on a defense that ranked first in the Northeast Conference in scoring defense and second in pass defense.
This year’s recruiting class features a strong balance of defensive talent in four linebackers, three defensive backs and four defensive linemen, including local products Douglas Flink (Auburn, Mass.) and Maduka Nwanekezi (Milton, Mass.).
Offensively, Bryant signed three quarterbacks, four receivers, three offensive linemen, one tight end and 5-foot-10, 215-pound running back Michael Perry (Dunmore, Pa.), the all-time career rushing leader at Dunmore High School with 4,832 yards and 61 touchdowns.
