ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union senior defensive back Isaiah Scott (Hamilton/Fairfield) returned two interceptions for touchdowns as the No. 1 ranked Purple Raiders posted their fifth-straight shutout in a 62-0 Ohio Athletic Conference win at homecoming at Mount Union Stadium.
Mount Union (6-0, 5-0 OAC) extended its regular season winning streak to 69 games and home field winning streak to 60 games. The five straight shutouts are one shy of the school-record six in a row the Raiders had to finish the 2007 regular season.
Capital (1-5, 1-4 OAC) has lost four-straight games for the first time since 2000.
Scott had interception returns of 84 and 40 yards to lead the nation's No. 1 ranked defense that held the Crusaders to 107 total yards. The Raiders also had two sacks and forced two fumbles -- with one of the fumbles being recovered by Scott's younger brother Joshua.
Sophomore quarterback Kevin Burke (Westlake/Lakewood St. Edward) had 71 yards rushing with a 40-yard touchdown run and threw for two scores -- both to senior wide receiver Jasper Collins (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva). Collins finished with a season-high 148 yards recieving while senior running back T.J. Lattimore (Maple Heights/Maple Heights) had 62-yard rushing touchdown and a game-high 84 yards rushing.
Mount Union fumbled the ball away on the second play from scrimmage to start the game and Capital took over on the Raiders' 48-yard line. Three plays later, Scott intercepted a Ryan Kremchek pass and returned it 84 yards to start the scoring just three minutes into the game.
The play seemed to spark the Mount Union defense which held Capital to 15 total yards for the remainder of the first quarter.
The offense got things going as well with a pair of big play scores as Burke hit Collins on a 57-yard touchdown pass. Burke then scrambled 40 yards for a touchdown and Mount Union led 21-0 at the end of the quarter.
Senior placekicker Tyler Almeida (Elyria/Elyria) hit a 25-yard field goal early in the second quarter before Burke and Collins hooked up again this time on a 63-yard touchdown pass to make the score 31-0.
Scott then had his second interception return for a score this time from 40 yards out while Julius Moore (Lakeland, Fla./Kathleen Senior) caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Roman Namdar (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) and Lattimore had his 62-yard touchdown run to put Mount Union up 52-0 at the half.
The second half scoring was a 15-yard touchdown run by senior fullback Jake Simon (Parma Heights/Holy Name) and a 34-yard field goal by freshman Isaac Spearman (Railroad, Pa./Susquehannock).
Mount Union plays next week at No. 25 ranked Otterbein in an OAC matchup. Kickoff in Westerville is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
